Programs

Hispanic Heritage Month

We celebrate the contributions, history, culture, and traditions of Latino/as throughout the entire year. During the national observance of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), we proudly honor the richness and diversity of our community by sponsoring programs focused on Latino themes and issues, which include guest speakers, lectures, conferences, films, artistic performances and workshops.

Latin Fest

Latin Fest is an annual spring celebration for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community, held at the Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts. Some of the previous performers have been Frankie Negron, Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, Millie Quezada, and Tito Nieves. This event celebrates Latino cultures and consists of lots of good dancing, food, and friends!

Recognition Banquet

At the end of each year, PRLACC honors graduating students and outstanding faculty, staff, and students. We also recognize the PRLACC Scholarship recipients for their outstanding involvement with and commitment to Latino issues through leadership and service to the community and beyond. Guests and family are encouraged to attend.

Movie Nites

Every semester, PRLACC offers a series of films about Latin America and Latinos. Come and join the fun and learn a thing or two. Discussions are held after the movie and are sure to make you think!

Between the Líneas

This book club is open to all who are interested in reading stories and books by Latino authors. Come and join the fun and read, chat, reflect and discuss! Don’t read in Spanish? No worries… all readings are available in English. The book club meets every other week.

Guest Speakers / Lecturers

Throughout the year, we bring local, state, and nationally renowned guest speakers and authors. Some of our past guests have included Naomi Ayala, Piri Thomas, Samuel Betances, Martín Espada, Eddie Pérez, Bessy Reyna, Juan González, Enrique Morones, Anthony Romero, Carlos Eire, Mayra Santos, and Aya de León.

Outreach

Outreach is an important component of PRLACC's mission. Throughout the year, we work with middle schools, high schools and many other community organizations to connect youth to their potential by building relationships and providing educational and cultural opportunities.

Homecoming

The Center is an active participant in Homecoming, which consists of a banner, alma mater, float, lip sync, and royalty competitions as well as a football game. Join us and become involved! Click here to see PRLACC's performance at the Homecoming 2011 Lipsync.
